The Gift That You Are

Do you truly know the gifts that you gave to me?

Do you understand how you altered one life so profoundly?

Do you comprehend all that you are to me?

Do you know how your soul touched mine, awakened it

Made me feel Love?

Do you remember who I was before I met you?

Do you know that through your gentleness I found my own tenderness within?

Do you realize that I had no spiritual self until you showed me yours?

Do you know that you gave me back my soul

That you held in your heart for me for so long?

Can you imagine, even for a moment, that you changed me forever?

Can you fathom that your brief presence in my life made me whole?

Can you understand how indebted I am to you, always?

Can you feel my love for you, still, an unwavering presence

That will be in my heart for eternity?

I have nothing to give to you in return but my love.

I can do little to thank you but to remember you in every cloud

See you in each sunset that I cherish like life itself,

Watch you in each swallow that shares its freedom with me

And, keep your graceful presence wrapped around my heart, for ever.
